Crawford Seeks Reelection as Municipal Judge
Irving B. Crawford defends his record as municipal judge while noting public approval and lack of appeals during his term. Crowlie Grants Halt Pension Checks In May And June
Pierre April 11 Old age assistance grants will not be paid in South Dakota during May and June due to lack of funds. P L Crowlie, director of the State Welfare Commission, said sufficient money is available for April payments to about 9,000 people. Regular monthly assistance will resume after July 1 when legislative funds are appropriated. The director cited county matching shortfalls and failed federal aid as reasons. About 4,800 aged persons would be dropped, leaving 4,000 to receive roughly $18 this month. Many removed will transfer to the Resettlement Administration for monthly grants. Some remainers are deemed borderline cases with relatives to care for them. The federal government allocated $74,118 to South Dakota for April payments, added to state funds already on hand. Checks issuance was temporarily halted until Congress secures more funds. Old age assistance is for those 65 or older with no means of support.
