Magnet extractant aims to remove odors from foods
A science editor reports on a carbon based taste magnet presented by John Y. Hassler of West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co. It uses ultra fine particles and electrical forces to absorb unwanted flavors and odors from liquids and foods such as sorghum, cane syrups, pineapple juice, and beer. It is limited to liquid processing and has potential for improving taste while noting bitterness like quinine cannot be eliminated by carbon.
