Hagood Returns to Active Duty in Sixth Corps Area
Washington April 13 Major General Johnson Hagood was restored to active duty in command of the Sixth Corps area at Chicago effective May 2. He replaces Major General Frank B. McCoy. McCoy moves to command the Second Corps area in New York. Hagood, the third highest ranking officer, conferred with President Roosevelt twice at the White House. The move follows Hagood’s earlier criticism of WEA money and stage money and comes amid planned maneuvers in the Midwest region. Hagood has about 14 months to reach retirement age but may retire earlier with full pay. A three month leave appears likely as a decision on his future duties is made.
