Retailer faces excess stock as wartime ration rules bite
The retailer, saddled with excess inventory after a March 31 index, cannot buy staples until he clears 4 649 points by selling slow moving items and redeeming stamps. He lacks essential goods like pews, corn, beans, and tomatoes as others face the same shortages, forcing him toward closure and complicating disposal of remaining stock.
