Sully Rancher Charged With Livestock Theft

Sully County rancher Joe Eldridge 26 was charged with grand larceny of six cattle from neighbor John Zebrowski twelve miles northwest of Okaboo. Arrested in Pierre after officers traced the stock to Presho. Four cattle sold to Nebraskans and a Stanley County feeder two. Eldridge held at Onida after confession claiming money to pay pills.

More Lend Lease Funds Allocated This Day

President Roosevelt announced the allocation of $500 million from the lend lease act for 212 new merchant ships and about 50 or 60 shipways. He also authorized another $500 million for existing military equipment to be turned over to nations resisting aggression. He suggested a possible removal of the Red Sea from combat zone status if no fighting occurs there, potentially within days. Earlier he noted an allocation of $1,080,000,000 of the $7,000,000,000 aid.

Roosevelt outlines hog and dairy price pegs plan

President Roosevelt described the agriculture department move to peg hog and dairy prices as a stabilization measure to spur production and enable food exports. He said hogs would be insured against low prices if farmers fatten with corn, aiming to boost fattening and corn use, with similar goals for butter and milk. VERMILLION April 4 Kirby A. Kirby a 59 year old Ver million clothier faced sentencing after a 20 day trial. Convicted of manslaughter in the first degree for shooting Attorney Peter Olson in his law office. Jury of 12 deliberated 10 hours 15 minutes recommending leniency. judge C C Puckett set the four year to life term and scheduled sentencing for 4 p m. tonight.

School Board appoints census enumerators for district

At the April meeting the Huron independent district board named Mrs A V Burger Mrs Harry Sanders George Pearce and John Congstas as census enumerators for the annual count of boys and girls aged six to 21. Supt Lang stressed state aid hinges on accurate returns and urged parental cooperation for complete eligibility reporting. The meeting moved to routine matters afterwards.
