Fox Challenges Move Of History Society From Memorial Building
State historian Lawrence J. Fox asked the attorney general for an opinion on whether the State Historical Society must vacate its space in the Soldiers and Sailors World War Memorial Building and whether the State Free Library Commission may relocate from the capitol annex to the memorial. Blake directs partial vacancy by April 10, with the east wing to the library. Fox argues the memorial is too small and a 1939 code assigns museum duties to the Historical Society. The 197? amendment allows the library to locate anywhere in Pierre and becomes effective July 1.
