Voyage of Priscilla and Early Portuguese Immigrants to Hawaii

Seventy years ago the bark Priscilla carried 120 Portuguese migrants from Madeira to Honolulu amid hardship and near disaster in the Straits of Le Maire. Among passengers were notable future residents like M. A. Gonsalves, with several families and artisans who stayed in Hawaii and contributed to trade, hospitality, and local society.

Opium Possession Case In Police Court

Ab Kee and Ab Hoo appeared in Police Court this morning on opium possession charges. Ab Kee, holder of a Board of Health opium smoking permit, surrendered it to Ab Hoo on the 26th inst for reasons not stated. Judge Wilcox fined Ab Hoo $50 and costs.
