Queen's Right to Compensation Discussed on Lanai

A Honolulu commission session on the Queen’s compensation heard numerous attendees including M. Cooke O Bolte T Lane W. C. Smith and others as they debated whether the United States should offer settlement to the Queen. Testimony touched on the monarchy’s restoration and the Queen’s property encumbrances with calls for US action to heal Hawaiian tensions.

Guests of Federal Officials at Hawaiian Hotel Lunch

At 1 o clock a complimentary luncheon for the Senatorial Commission was hosted by federal officials at the Hawaiian hotel. A front lawn table decorated with red carnations carried a long list of attendees including Senators Mitchell Foster Burton and numerous judges officials and dignitaries such as Governor Dole Chief Justice Frear Justice Perry and Prince David Kawananakoa among others. Manager Smith served a delicious and sumptuous repast.

Fire near miss at Farias home as kerosene spark hits kitchen

A kerosene priming incident near J. J. Faria’s residence at 9:30 this morning caused flames to lash the kitchen wall. An alarm from box 61 on Ala Beretania street was rung as men from the Jehbarhood arrived before firefighters. The house sits on a narrow lane off Beretanis street. In separate matter, Alfonso Abreu faces liquor selling charges in Police Court with officers McDuine and a Portuguese witness for prosecution and two Portuguese defense witnesses. The judge may tour the store premises with the sheriff before ruling.

Andromeda Off Port In Distress Near Harbor

The Norwegian bark Andromeda, 61 days from Iquique in ballast for Eureka, was hit by a cyclone off LEN and 126 W. Aug 2 around 41 p.m. Fore topgallant mast and topmast lost, heavy damage. Four crew injured but not seriously. Fearless toed the vessel into the harbor, now in the stream.
