Oliver Winthrop faces trial for kidnapping and robbing James Campbell of this city before Judge Walge with a San Francisco jury. District Attorney Barnes leads the prosecution. HL W Quitton and Frank Bell defend. Campbell, a 68 year old carpenter and sugar planter, testified about the assault and abduction at a cottage on California Street, detailing the masked attack, robbery, and his five day confinement.
Supreme Court sustains plaintiff J C Cluney against Lee Wai and others and remands to the Circuit Court of the First Circuit at Chambers to take testimony on which musical instruments disturb sleep and the hours of disturbance. After determining the instruments and hours, an injunction will bar the defendants from using the disturbing instruments during specified times. Each party bears its own costs.

A pleasant looking young man named Shanks arrived today from the Coast. He is the son of Dublin's former mayor who represented the city at the World's Fair. Mr. Shanks will stay in Honolulu for an indeterminate period and was shown around town this morning by Sir Robert Herron, the author’s old friend.
