A gang of laborers began laying crushed rock top dressing on the Manon road near the bridge outside John Eva's land. This marks the upper extremity named in a Legislature appropriation at its latest session. American ship Port George sails for the Coast today.
The old telephone exchange room destroyed by fire has been rebuilt and is in good condition. Windows and doors keep the area cool, and a small room with a large window facing the operating area will serve as a viewing space for visitors observing the central staff without disturbance.

Three Japanese women and one man were found among contract laborers at the quarantine station this forenoon by BH, RB. Adame of Alexander & Baldwin. They will probably be sent back to their native country in the Dorio Saturday.

A 14 year old stowaway from the City of Puebla recounts harsh treatment on a transport, claiming he slid under a pier, rode via ship and was later taken to Manila as a mascot. He describes encounters with colored and English boys, fare issues, and confinement aboard ships with staff aiding him. He also mentions prior stowaway experiences and travel with Mr. McManus.
Yesterday Keoki a native was arrested for second degree larceny and released on own recognizance to return stolen goods by nine. Joe was later jailed for drunkenness. a name mix up with Keoki caused a court mix but Keoki pleaded guilty to larceny and remains in custody as investigation continues.
A. P. Taylor, formerly with L. A. Thurston, leaves for Manila to serve as adjutant to Captain O'Neil in the Transport Slam. He receives a substantial salary with expenses paid and plans a two month return to Honolulu. He recovered an $800 check lost Monday night, endorsed by Captain O'Neil, turned in by a Home Bakery boarder, aiding manager Field to notify Bishop's bank.
A Chinese driver collided with a native driver this morning in the Police Court case. The Japanese passenger demanded $16 for tire repairs. each party provided $8.
Captain Wella is named the new freight clerk along the wharves. He brings considerable experience at the work and has strong recommendations. He was a passenger on the Andrew Welon and is now attending to its cargo duties.
The coroner's jury conducted a brief session in the Deputy Marshal's office and returned a verdict of death by drowning in the case of a five year old Chinese boy who drowned at Pawaa on Tuesday before Deputy Marshal Chillingworth acting as coroner.
Paloka, accused of wife beating, was arrested last evening by Officer Von Hag ton in the Tramways stables Falham. Sentenced by Judge Wilcox to fifteen days hard labor this forenoon. George Houghtailing fined in Police Court yesterday for unlawful possession of opium and noted an appeal to the Circus Court.
