Steamship Arizona Refitted For Pacific Service In 1900s

The steamship Arizona, 5164 tons, is being refitted in Glasgow at a cost of 500000 dollars for service on the Tacoma Hongkong route. Chartered by Northern Pacific, she will leave Hongkong for Tacoma in May, with new engines boilers and midships passenger accommodations. The rebuilt vessel will carry fifty first class passengers and join four existing NP steamers, to form the largest trans Pacific fleet.

Native mass meeting denounces annexation in hawaiian protest

At a sparsely attended gathering led by J K Kauna mano and featuring speakers J Koulia and Kalanokalani, about 350 people heard anti annexation speeches. A committee prepared a petition to President Dole and Cabinet to block any annexation treaty without nationwide referendum, asserting Hawaiians are the nation’s majority opposed to annexation.

Central Committee Plans Thursday Drafting of Platform

The Central Committee will meet Thursday night to draft the party platform for the convention. Delegates from both districts will hold caucuses after organization, then submit three candidate names to be ratified by the convention. A government band will perform at Thomas Square at 7:30 with a varied program ending in the evening.
