Rampage at Waikiki Grounds Ends After Captain Deflects Revolver
Captain Spiliner of the Mount of Portal narrowly escaped being shot by Lewis during a confrontation on Waikiki road between the tramway terminus and River street. Lewis, drunk and irate, drew a .32 revolver but was overpowered by a blow to the face. He was marched toward Marshal Brown’s home, later taken to town for investigation. Debris nearby and a woman who heard shots identified Lewis as the man who frightened residents. Also, George Houghtailing broke his leg while stepping on a stone at his Bethel street yard. he was taken to Queen’s Hospital.
