A prowler entered a Japanese dwelling in Iwile and fired a revolver, fatally wounding a boy as a Japanese family slept. Police and detectives, including Doyle and Detective Garcia, pursued a Porto Rican suspect. The incident occurred as dawn broke and left a mother grief stricken over her injured child.
A fatal Navany avenue fire in the Friel residence claimed three lives, Mrs. Friel and her daughter Etta Friel aged 16, and Georgia Friel aged 10, with a surviving sister Mrs. Jackson and others injured. Patrolman McCormack reported entering the burning house, guiding residents to safety, and witnessing a dire scene as flames consumed upper rooms and the stairway.
