Businessmen discuss legalizing okolehao distillation to diversify Hawaii’s economy, create native jobs, and bring in large revenue. They cite mountain root supplies, native labor, and a Paris Exposition prize as support, arguing it could outcompete foreign spirits and stabilize cash flow for the Territory.
Former Judge Humphreys joins as associate counsel for the petitioner as the mandamus case against the Hawaii Territory Auditor proceeds. Judge Gear set a continuation to next Thursday morning while changes in counsel are finalized and the Governor suspends the Auditor pending further Senate action.
