Long and McLoughlin, traveling to play for the Davis Cup, faced New Zealand opposition on the Heron Bay courts. Despite mixed displays, the locals impressed with doubles, serving and volleys, losing 6-4 8-10 10-8 in a spirited match.
At Moanalua on Sunday the four ball tourney of the Honolulu Golf Club concluded with H. Hod an Win for HA Wiltor and A Ewart defeating R. A. Jordan and D. W. Anderson in the finals two up with one to play. Weather was ideal and greens in excellent condition as results list finalists and round scores through semifinals.
At Aala Park yesterday the Kowalos beat the Adlan 6 to 1 in a Riverside series game. Kewalos lead the best two of three and will meet again next Sunday to decide the championship of the season. Freitas pitched well for the winners as a fair crowd watched the action.
On Saturday afternoon a large crowd watched the High School and Town teams play a football match. The game featured several near-scores, a pivotal punt by Henry Chil ingworth, and decisive defense by the Town squad. Officials included Benny Clark as referee and Johnny Marcus Hine as head umpire, with Deve Sherwood and Kot Achiew among the players making key advances.
In the second half Plunkett replaced Clark and Drelgat replaced Campbell. Henry Chilingworth was injured and Ronn subbed in. Before injury Chilingworth sent a testy to Bing Henn, who dodged four men and was tackled by Brimner when he looked at a scorer. The game ended with Helther side ahead. the play was lively and both teams showed form.
A marked fall in attendance at Athletic Park followed a doubleheader between the J A C and the Kalihis. J A C won the opener 4 to 1, with early runs and steady pitching. The second game saw A C teams trade runs, Marines and Kalihis scoring, but final notes show Kalihis prevailing as the day’s end. Attendance listed at 1,128 with spectators energetic despite sparse bleachers.
Iroquois beat the Commanches 16 to 6 on Saturday in a game noted for large crowds and romping home runs. The Johnson Ketchal fight outcome surprised few, while Stanley lasted twelve rounds with the favorite negro fighter, though a quicker finish was possible.
