Fire Mandamus Gases Hatch Contends Writ Proper
The Supreme Court heard the Fire Claims Commission appeal from a mandamus directing it to amend two insurance subrogation awards after insurer deductions. F M Hatch argued denial of justice via double deduction and that mandamus is proper when appeals are barred. The Attorney General noted the commission's relief aim after the 1900 fire and debated remedies if the law barred appellate review. Chief Justice Frear pressed about insured claimants assigning claims to insurers under policy terms.
