Supervisors Host Stay And Band Concert At Hilo Island

The Hawaii County Board of Supervisors held a stay and band concert at Cocoanut Island this afternoon to celebrate improvements at the popular island resort of Hilo. The Matson liner Enterprise arrived Friday and the Annie Johnson today, plus San Praolsen.

Ford Escapes By Hung Jury

In San Francisco on October 5 a Ford jury was discharged after failing to reach a verdict. Four jurors favored convicting the attorney of the United Railroads while eight favored acquittal.

Democrats Split at Massachusetts Convention in 1900

In Springfield the Democratic State Convention split into factions over the nomination. One group backed C. W. Bartlett while a conservative faction backed H. W. Whitney of Boston. Separate dispatches note Republican renominations under Governor Guild and a fatal blast at a Tomatsuke factory in Osaka killing sixty three workers.

WK Myers secretary of the Ha waiian Trust Company, ancillary administrator, filed an inventory with the probate court. Real estate valued at 4060 dollars, four lots on King Street and Dowsett Lane, and Puulki Kapalami. Two lots mortgaged to secure 83000, other two mortgaged for 1600. Personal property includes 50 bonds of Raymond Ranch for 1u00 plus 455 shares of Dowsett Company, Ltd., par 100 each. Bonds and shares held by Henry Waterhane Trust Company as collateral for a note of 48195.05, balance 28000 due.

Plans for National Guard target wallery approved by governor

Civil Engineer Southworth of the Public Works Department submits plans for a National Guard target wallery on a vacant Bere tania street lot behind the drill shed. The governor will approve after two minor changes. The drill shed measures 80 by 60 feet and 20 feet high with a concrete back wall to prevent bullets. The building will be funded with federal money.

Hawaii Woods Fine For Railroad Uses

C Faulkner buyer for the Santa Fe Railroad examined Hawaii forests for ties material. He found abundant Ohia and iron wood across Puna, Kona and nearby districts and said the wood is harder and better for ties than pine. Contracts for shipments to the mainland are likely, with transportation logistics the only hurdle to be solved.
