Transports Senator and Benmott Bring 45th Infantry to Honolulu

Transports Senator and Benmott carrying the 45th Infantry Regiment arrived off Honolulu after leaving San Francisco on November 16. The Benmohr docked at Irmeard wharf and the Senator at the old Fish Market. troops were drilled ashore amid a large crowd while officers praised the unit’s enlistment and battles in Cuba and Porto Rico.

Chinese prisoner Sam Pack still at large near Wailuku

Sheriff offers a hundred dollar reward for the recapture of Sam Pack one of the Chinese prisoners who escaped while at work on the 15th in Wailuku. Police say Pack is hiding in cane fields or along the eastern ridge and has been shot at. officers report he may bear a leg wound from a pistol shot.

Hotel Site Selected for City’s New Hotel Project

Geo H Paris announced he secured an option on a parcel bounded by Kapiolani, Beretania and Young Streets from C M Cooke. The five acre site faces Thomas Square and is slated for a larger hotel complex to be developed by a newly incorporated company capitalized at 250000 with a total purchase price around 20000.

Wailuku Court House Dance Hosted by Mrs Weddick

A Wailuku Court House dance on November 25 was held with about twenty couples attending. The event featured evergreen decorations and smooth floor management by Geo H Imming, ending at 2 a.m. Light punch and refreshments were served. A run from Spreckville to Puunene supported the festivity, organized by Superintendent Elier and praised by attendees.

The funeral of the late Caspar Phelps took place at the Masonic Temple under the auspices of 1 No 21, of which Mr Phelps was a member. His health had declined for some time prior. He died Saturday evening at the residence of Mr and Mrs Henry Wright on Beckley Street.

Wilcox Heads to San Francisco in Cop Ue Trek

Robert W. Wilcox has left for San Francisco aboard the steamer Cop Ue after securing a ticket in place of a previously booked Italian friend. He paused at Warrington to confer with ex-Queen Lilivokalant on Crown Lands and plans to join attorney Edgar Caypless, who studies Kamehameha Itt’s gene song, as Caypless tours the United States to win public support for the Crown Lands issue. Two Women Attacked Near Likelike Street King

On a Saturday evening two women walking to the opera were accosted by a man in the dark near King Street just east of Likelike. He grabbed one woman violently. she screamed and fled with her companion toward the glow of carriage lamps. Portuguese Bomb Attempt Injures Nearby Homes

Last Wednesday a Portuguese man attempted to blow up a house using a section of a large pipe packed with power and iron scraps. The blast failed to explode properly but sent iron fragments into nearby houses, causing minor damage.
