Theatre Pa reports a packed box last evening including Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Tewin hosting Mr. and Mrs. I. W. Macfarlane Mrs. Chas. 1. Carter Charge d affaires and Consul General Canavarro and ED. Macfarlane Jy Mra. Wilder's box also present with Mrs. ED. Tenney Mrs. Noonan Miss Helen Willer and Gerrit Wilder in attendance.
The Young Hawaiians Institute will celebrate the anniversary of Hawaiian independence tomorrow at 1:30 PM with music and readings. An address will be given by J. M. Poepoe.
In the upcoming performance of The Ensign, nautical scenery is bolstered by imported pieces from the Frawley Company with over ninety distinct units in use. The production emphasizes realism for tomorrow night’s show.
Thanksgiving services in Honolulu churches drew large crowds. Rev Abs Markintosh preached at St Andrew's Cathedral with Miss McGrew soprano solos and Woodward Te Deum. Rev J M Monroe of the Christian church preached at the Methodist service. The sermon by Rev Birnie urged gratitude to God amid world events and referenced leaders from Britain to Germany, arbitration, and reformatories. President Dole and other dignitaries attended. The account notes rich decor, diverse music, and a cosmopolitan view of Thanksgiving.
The audience for The Senator was large and eager, with William Crone’s Washington satire drawing praise for Maclyn Arbuckle and the cast. Strong performances by Miss Pixley, Miss Bates, and Mr. Worthing highlighted a lively rendition, ending with curtain calls after Act III, as Fourth Street’s Quintette Club delivered encored singing.
