Cannons From Hanalei Returned To Honolulu Museums
Two old rusty cannons, weighing about a thousand pounds, were removed from Hanalei and brought to Honolulu by Captain Taussig. One cannon was destined for the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum and the other for the Smithsonian in Washington. local curator Brigham questioned the cannon’s history, while Judge Kakina explained they came from the Haoheo wreck. Taussig would return them if he revisits Hanalei. the price of reconstruction was noted as 85. The piece hints at further action if authenticity is confirmed.
