Hilo district reports a quake on Thursday followed by a marked increase in Mauna Loa activity. The volcano shows a very bright glow at night with the Volcano House area displaying the strongest eruption seen since the outbreak began.
Dave Fleming writes to George Thiten recounting a Mokuaweowee crater trip and disputing a rival account. He cites an immense crack far from the rim, notes Dr. Douglas was too ill to move, and asserts the flow was real or not depending on perspective. Fleming offers copies of his photos as proof.
