47 Year Old Kao Wins Marathon in Dramatic Finish
Antone Kao, age 47, and Tan Kamoto pushed each other over the full course in a dramatic marathon at Athletic Park. Kao led the final sprint and finished first by a narrow margin after a grueling 3 hours 8 minutes and 40 seconds, with Kamoto close behind. Spectators packed bleachers as Kao demonstrated remarkable endurance, while Kamoto proved a resilient challenger. Connie Hayer faded after 16 miles, and Charlie Wong impressed with late surges. Officials included Mayor W. T. Rawlins and Bulletin writer, with a crowd cheering every step to the finish.
