Maul Territory Race Yields Tight Island Ballots

Voters on the islands of Maul Molokai and Lanai participated in a tight election. Prince Kahlo Kalanianaole polled 10 votes and Delegate Robert W Wilcox 44 votes, 25 less than the winner. DH Dickey led Maul with 824 votes to William White 631, amid many rejected ballots for rule violations.

Big Luau Planned By Territorial Republican Party

Last night the Territorial Central Committee of the Republican party formed a three member committee to draft plans for a big luau a week from Saturday or another suitable time to celebrate the election victory. The aim is to show goodwill toward all citizens, regardless of party, and to push welfare work for the people as a whole. No arrangements have been finalized yet. It was suggested the event be held on Capitol grounds with emphasis on native Hawaiians.

Cruelty to animals cases heard in Waikiki road mule detail

In a Honolulu police court session, several drivers including Tan Ka holela Loula Gonsalves R A Brown David Paahaula and William Dann faced cruelty charges over mules used to haul coral rock for the Diamond Head quarry near Waikiki road. Investigations followed reports of mules with large sores and sore shoulders from collars. The court, after viewing the afflicted mule outside, adjourned proceedings to this afternoon with defense arguing that treatment could allow work to continue without worsening wounds.
