Dr. Charles H. Wetmore, veteran Hilo physician and missionary ally, died Friday evening. Born February 8, 1820 in Lebanon Connecticut, he arrived in Hawaii in 1849 serving under the American Board. His lifelong work included hospital care, church support, and school trusteeship, with a large family and decades of public service. His funeral was held Saturday afternoon with a memorial service planned for Sunday in the church.

Attorney General Smith supported it as a state control measure to curb smuggling. Senator Baldwin argued for trial to assess morality. Debate noted, a sectional vote on postponement failed, and amendments were considered as the session recessed at noon after section 64.
The Kilohana Art League announces its semi annual exhibition opening next Saturday May 21 from 9:00 to 5:00. Works will be received at the League rooms and Mr Hitchcock will be present to review pieces. The public will soon have a chance to view local artists’ recent work.
