Independent libel suit drags through day as Ha waii plaintiff fights rights

The libel case against the Independent of Hawaii continues into a second day before Judge Perry with numerous witnesses to be examined. The dispute involves lands at Ewa and Heahupasa Waipio, acreage for cattle, and a writ of injunction against transfers to John Estate. Attorneys include Cecil Browns and A G M Robertson for the plaintiff.

Senate approves new wharf plan and marine park bill

In a Senate session on May 13 1898 debate centered on Harbor Improvements Honolulu and a $119 000 allocation for a new alip in the Nanana stream. The committee advised against a costly retaining wall and supported wharves on both sides of the Nanua stream, with total Harbor Improvements funding at 226 000, contingent on no damming of the Nanaoa stream. Senate Bill 43 establishing Kaknako marine park questioned, sent to Public Lands, and Senate Bill 45 on the Spalding Cable bill moved forward. The session adjourned at 12 10 p.m. until Monday.
