Word reached China from Fort street merchant Mr Tracy now in Yokohama. He plans to return June 2 bringing a large ring of Oriental goods. Tracy toured Japan visiting Kobe and Tokio and attended Kobe Cherry Blossom festival. In Yokohama he met Hugh Gunn and two other men from Tacoma and Wichita Kanaai, who are staying on the Yokohama bluffs.
The Countess Wachtmeister discussed The Dangers of Hypnotism drawing audience attention to mental, physical, and financial wrecks caused by evil hypnotists. She contrasted animal magnetism as a different development to be pursued. The talk ran over an hour and ended with questions. she will repeat her discourse tonight.
A morning session disposed many cases. Seven Chinese defendants faced gambling charges. one discharged while ten paid 12 dollars plus costs. Char Ho fined 850 and costs for conducting a lottery. Jose Firella fined 25 for assault. Joe Ferreira acquitted on assault charge. F Smith drunkenness and native illicit distilling cases noted along with opium possession charges. one defendant found guilty of opium possession fined 850. The Castle memorial organ arrived. portions shipped to Puna today.
In a brief morning session the Hawaii Senate considered land bills, a water-use proposal for the Hilo Electric Light Co, and ports of entry measures. Senate adjourned at 10 25 AM for want of further business after a round of committee referrals and a fencing bill discussion.
Yesterday the House struck out and then reconsidered a section of the license bill relating to agents and dealers in stocks and notaries. Sections on licenses for butchers and livery stables drew strong objections, with prices debated, and several sections referred to a select committee. The chamber adjourned at 12 10 to 1 30.
