London reports Britain emulates the American Monroe Doctrine by deeming any foreign action threatening Gulf region ownership an unfriendly act. The move aims to block diversions toward a Gulf outlet, seen as a barrier to rivalry.
President Lorin A Thurston of the Rapid Transit Company said the Mshop Karate trustees remained undecided on pursuing a Cost case for an Interpretation of the Her lee Panah Bishop to the Supreme Court. The company had not yet planned the Kaimuki extension but was ready to proceed once the Bishop Hatate decision was made. Ax W C Smith, representing the trustees, is away on Maui and likely to return at week end.
The senate hears from Kuhio and Thurston on the law commission during an extra session. A. A. Wilder is cited in connection with a sought service of Enoch Johnson. The hearing focuses on legal commission matters presented in the upper chamber.
In Honolulu on May 5 1903 Wong Mau was fined 4 20 in the Police Court for cruelty to a dog. Officer Duaynehelle testified a dog whined in pain from a burn caused by hot water thrown on him in a Chinese house on Aala lane. The case cited a broader opinion on the act’s mechanics and laborer provisions.
