Commissioner Mactirlane and the Hawaii Promotion Committee held a morning meeting after efforts to fund an exhibit for the Territory at St Louis collapsed. Responses to the invitation to subscribe indicated failure to raise the required amount and local public apathy led to dropping the project.
Nine Kamehameha remains were moved to a newly built cement vault in the mausoleum’s mauka Ewa corner between the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Memorial and Nuuanu Road. Relatives and retainers attended a ceremony with ancient chants. Included were relatives of Queen Amma and notable figures Dr. Rooke Albert Kujutakea and others. The event followed longstanding Hawaiian custom.

Coroner’s inquest reports two Japanese cases of suicide by hanging in Hilo and nearby areas. Yamamoto To waichi, age about 27, was found hanging on March 16 after months of behavioral change. Tanaka Masato, missing since September 15, 1908, later identified by a hammer and striped shirt, had shown mental distress and family pressures.
Alanford University reports G. Dole in a morning vault reaching 12 feet 6 inches and nearing a world record in a potential Intercollegiate meet. Trainer adjustments and onlookers note the pole vault event, with Dole practicing at high height amid varsity prep.
