Murphy Club Agitators Ousted Over Japanese Meeting Plan

Dispute at Francis Murphy Club No 1 over inviting a Japanese temperance group to meet in the hall led to a vote, expulsions of agitators, and resignations by Beck and Donnelly after Rev W D Westervelt urged inclusion. The meeting ended with most members allowing Japanese meetings monthly, while some held firm against Orientals in the building.

Man Mistaken for Woods Sparks Waterfront Chase

A man resembling Woods, the escaped fugitive, sparked a waterfront pursuit when Captain Flint and others mistook him for Woods aboard a Ki­nau steamer. The lookalike, later identified as not Woods, prompted police to investigate while Woods’ whereabouts remained at large, with theories he hid in Karihi Valley and robs local places.

Valley Flood Destroys Property Near Nuuanu Stream

A major cloudburst turned Nuuanu stream into a raging torrent carrying mud, timber, and debris toward the harbor. Houses along the banks flooded within minutes, bridges threatened, a Japanese fishing boat smashed, horses frightened, and police aided evacuations as resi­dents reported widespread damage and water rising to several feet in low districts.

Tramcar hold up at St Patrick banquet prompts action
