Captains Tell Tales Of Wreck Aboard Island Schooner
Testimony at Honolulu inquiry recounts the collision between the lighthouse tender Kukui and the island schooner Moi Wahine. Captain Keriger describes the night watch, minimal lights, and a four hundred yard near-miss before the schooner disappeared. Captain Sam Muna, sole survivor, recalls the rapid sinking within minutes and the crew’s frantic efforts as the Kukui stood by.
