Washington March 1 The House grew lively as adjournment neared with debate over key bills. Conference reports on the public works and census measures were adopted while river and harbor and a general deficiency appropriations package moved to conferences under suspension of the rules.
Representatives from several sewer pipe manufacturers met in New York on March 1 to discuss consolidating the industry. They anticipate organizing a new company with 825 million capital, including plants in the Akron Ohio area, the Ohio River region, New York State, and Michigan.
About 118 Chinese men held for 118 return permit were released yesterday following new orders from Washington. Two were denied freedom as they claimed to be Bamuan born but lacked valid papers. Joshua K. Brown warned he had nothing further to do and suggested the Maine government would act against the two.
Washington March 1 Senator True reporting amendments to the Hanna Payne shipping bill impose tighter restraints. Provisions cap total annual compensation and require pro rata deductions to avoid excess.
