In an afternoon Senate session lawmakers reviewed and approved numerous budget items across bureaus. Key allocations covered prisons, customs, post, tax, land surveys, public works, waterworks, health, and road projects, with debates on jail needs and jailhouse conditions. Adjourned until Saturday.
Eight senators attended as Vice President Beare Kauhane called the session to order. In the Iate Circuit Court term at Hilo Judge Austin ruled for the defendants in a complex ejectment and lease renewal dispute involving Bishop Gulstan Emile Wery Andre Austin and Joseph Vieira. Vieira must vacate and pay rent to June 1815 while contesting two ejectment actions. the decision is reported as upheld by the higher court pending appeal.
Rev FH W Peck presented a talk on Chinese Gordon and a trip through Switzerland last night amid light rain. Lantern slides of Gordon were shown with commentary, followed by comic views. Next lecture will feature A Trip Through Canada, with five total lectures planned. Rev E R Dille from Central Methodist Episcopal Church San Francisco to assist April 16.
