The delegation and I renewed work on our measure Monday forenoon. Colonel Hepburn accompanied us to Speaker Cannon's private room where he asked many questions about the validity of our claim and Hawaii relations. He did not object to the petition and appeared friendly though no favorable pledge was given. We then moved to Chairman Tawney where he signaled implied support, but House rules blocked final action on bill No 19016, which awaited reference to the Appropriations Committee. the measure was tied to an authorized appropriation and could not be immediately acted upon.
