June 23 The Hague reports a warship is ordered to West India waters to safeguard Dutch interests amid tensions. The move follows cables indicating Dutch concerns and strategic patrols near the region.
A Japanese man Yanagi killed Kuwabara and wounded a Japanese woman in a room at the Ewa plantation camp near the Ewa mill during a midnight attack. Kuwabara died shortly after at the plantation hospital. the woman survived with serious injuries and three fingers severed on her right hand. Yanagi fled along the railroad toward Honolulu. The woman had been married to Yanagi, who had left his plantation job and sold his household effects and his wife to Kuwabara. Police were alerted at 1 a.m. by Kwa plantation officer Reid.
