Supreme Court arguments and appeals heard this morning

Two cases were argued and submitted before the Supreme Court this morning including L Ahio versus C Bolte and Tr Ninomiya versus the Treasurer of the Territory from the First Circuit. This afternoon exceptions were heard from the First Circuit Court in Tr Moweman versus S M Damon.

Booth Fire Ruled From Painter Oiled Rags

At about 12 16 this morning Chas W Booths Pacific Heights home caught fire. Officials say oiled rags used by painters may have caused spontaneous combustion. The blaze destroyed the unoccupied house, with neighbors and workers nearby. Fire department crews arrived as the structure burned, and the scene drew locals from a nearby gathering. The Booths were away at Wal-ki. Continued on Page 6.

Senators from Oahu debated a water works appropriation. Hyson reservoir funds were reduced from 160000 to 75000, redirected to Pahon water works including pumping plant and rights of way. Senate passes third reading on bills and adjourns

The Senate completed third reading for Bills 12 and 13 and Bill 14 moved to second reading. A resolution to cut expenses by dispensing with the chaplain, assistant clerk, and messenger was discussed. The session adjourned to 10 oclock tomorrow with no accounts report yet. The extras journal and minutes were in progress for the next readings.

Principle of High Vent Abates Sewer Gas Nuisance

Public Works experiments with a concurring plan to reduce sewer gas on lower levels by installing tall vent pipes along King Street near Kaplola and Vietoris. The pipes, painted black and absorbing sun rays, connect to the rain sewer and draw air to divert gas, slowing odor near street level. More pipes may be installed if needed, especially on lower levels.
