The Hawaii House reads Governor Dole's note urging adherence to legislative integrity in the Loan Bill process. He stresses lawmakers must vote by best judgment, not be bound by promises or inducements to their electing districts, insisting party or factional demands cannot override public duty.
Two cases were argued and submitted before the Supreme Court this morning including L Ahio versus C Bolte and Tr Ninomiya versus the Treasurer of the Territory from the First Circuit. This afternoon exceptions were heard from the First Circuit Court in Tr Moweman versus S M Damon.
At about 12 16 this morning Chas W Booths Pacific Heights home caught fire. Officials say oiled rags used by painters may have caused spontaneous combustion. The blaze destroyed the unoccupied house, with neighbors and workers nearby. Fire department crews arrived as the structure burned, and the scene drew locals from a nearby gathering. The Booths were away at Wal-ki. Continued on Page 6.
Senators from Oahu debated a water works appropriation. Hyson reservoir funds were reduced from 160000 to 75000, redirected to Pahon water works including pumping plant and rights of way. Electric light plant reduced to 40000, with 10000 shifted to installing a new high lift pump for district supply. Additional items covered roads, reservoirs, concrete bridges, and stables, with variations to several projects.
The Senate completed third reading for Bills 12 and 13 and Bill 14 moved to second reading. A resolution to cut expenses by dispensing with the chaplain, assistant clerk, and messenger was discussed. The session adjourned to 10 oclock tomorrow with no accounts report yet. The extras journal and minutes were in progress for the next readings.
Public Works experiments with a concurring plan to reduce sewer gas on lower levels by installing tall vent pipes along King Street near Kaplola and Vietoris. The pipes, painted black and absorbing sun rays, connect to the rain sewer and draw air to divert gas, slowing odor near street level. More pipes may be installed if needed, especially on lower levels.
Senator McCandless asserts no comment on reports that after TE von Holtfax completes purchase of Layialei lands from the government a large portion may pass to a gentleman buyer. The exact terms and the nature of any deal between Holt and the government remain undisclosed.

The Forty first Day session on Punahou campus opened with Speaker Deckley abdicating to Vice Speaker Knudsen after a governor called. The House later indicated it would accept the challenge and aims to best the Senate in the upcoming match.
