Wide Tires Act Faces New Senate Consideration
In a Hawaii Legislature session the wide tires act was debated after a conference report. President Wilder ruled a motion to table the report out of order, sending the matter back to unfinished business as hearings continued. The Fresh Meat Commission report was received, with a recommendation to extend service and replace a member. The vote on not concurring with the conference report passed seven to four, and the bill to adhere to the majority was also carried seven to four. The Kapiolani park amendment failed to pass this session alongside the Hope Bill 62 repealing the Registration Act. The Lands Act change and thumb mark provisions drew further debate, with broader opposition from Cabinet and white residents, but repealing actions advanced to second reading and a special order for Monday. House Bill 60 on land sale forfeitures passed unanimously. The Legislature adopted the resolution placing records under the Interior Minister, and the Accounts Committee reported $263.50 in approved bills. Adjourned.
