Torpedo Boats Are Delicate War Engines
Petersburg May 26 The official report from Viceroy Alexiem describes the torpedo boat destroyer Stereguschtiohnt and the March 9 engagement with Japanese forces. It notes the delicate engine rooms and that the crew were driven to the deck by escaping steam. An engineer saved the ship after suffering burns and seawater exposure while returning below to restart the boiler. The Japanese claim a March 10 torpedo hit remains disputed.
