Town Team manager resigns after report shows higher expenses

Sailor Schooner Laka Returns After Fertilizer Leak

The schooner Laka arrived this morning carrying fertilizer for Hamakas plantation from Allen and Robinson but leaked and the cargo got wet. The vessel returned to port for repairs and dewatering.

Kalaupapa Tree Planting Prizes Boost Settlement Improvements

Kalaupapa and Kalawao residents are urged to plant trees under a prize program funded by The Hawaiian Star Independent P.O. Advertiser Live Nine Bulletin. Prizes range from fifty to ten dollars for best tree planting between August 1, 1899 and October 1, 1900. A three-member committee selected by local newspapers will judge, considering context and effort, not just count.

Port of Honolulu Exports Surpass 1.26 Million in July

For the month ending today the value of domestic produce shipped from Honolulu port totals 1,267,215 dollars. Sugar and bananas dominate the 250,000 plus bag sugar export, with 55,554 bags of coffee, 32,723 bags of rice, and 127 bags of coffee also noted. Imports and other items include bananas, honey, wine casks, and a small iron shipment. The City of Columbia carried ballast but returned with the steamer from Nishwa en route to Union.

Monthly Honolulu Stock Exchange July report notes rise in activity

The July transaction summary shows increased buying and selling across stocks on the Honolulu Stock Exchange. Kwabaw traded 1297 shares up to 80 1 2 cents, with Hooukas at 140 trades peaking at 82 6 1 2 cents, while Mabryde and Olan saw notable shifts and substantial volumes in several issues.
