Hawaii Senate Approves Budget Cuts and Alcohol Bill Changes

The Senate approved salary mileage allocations for several members, reduced schoolhouse funding, and adopted amendments to an alcohol bill allowing limited drugstore importations. It also tightened alcohol sale rules, discussed education funding control, and postponed several measures to a conference with the House. The day ended with adjournment to Thursday morning.

The Representatives in a Hawaiian Assembly Session

The House met at Swasm with petitions from Kan residents for rounds through Kan homesteads at Wailau and Nino. A select committee was chosen. The Labor Commission bill passed, and Senate amendments were read a second time and made the third reading. The kerosene bill and telegraph cable bill moves were debated, adjournment set for tomorrow.

Ah Sing The Theaters Theft Fashioned In Hawaii Tale

Ah Sing, a former storekeeper from Rekeleville now in Spreckelsville, traveled to the city with cash drafts, gold jewelry, a diamond ring, and Hong Kong certificates. After visiting the Chinese theater he found his clothes ransacked, losing drafts, certificates, valuables, and silver pieces. He notified police and postponed departure on the City of Peking. moral: don’t change clothes in a hurry.

Court actions in libel and kinship cases heard in supreme court

The Supreme Court ordered a new trial in Gomes v Hawaiian Gazette Co et al on the grounds of error in excluding truth evidence, while in Kearn v Kine and others the court affirmed the Circuit Court findings supporting the action of enactment. Deputy Marshal Brown reports an unsatisfied execution in Opfergelt minors v Stevens. Judge Cooper later heard motions for a new commission in Sumner by his next friend Maria et al.
