This afternoon the Samoan Commissioners Judge Tripp of the United States and Baron von Bsternburg of Germany will accompany Lawyer Ballou on a trip to the Pali.
Professor Berger will join the party to the Molokai loper settlement in the W G Hall tomorrow evening to deliver old musical instruments and music to the band boys. Permission was granted by Minister Mott Smith this morning. The band will play at Makiki baseball grounds during the game between the tars and Kamehamehas Saturday afternoon, seen as the season’s final and likely most interesting game. Mott Smith is reviewing Captain Berger’s request for a new band practice place due to heat and noise from the current drill shed.
Maurioia hosts 869 Japanese and Chinese in quarantine. Jack McVeigh says Thyra immigrants have been freed and another 92 will be freed Monday. He notes a large crowd and calls it among the best he has seen.
Deputy Marshal Hitchcock will remain with the police department through August before leaving for Hawaii for a fortnight. Marshal Brown confirmed the arrangement this morning, noting the resignation takes effect at the end of the present month.
A Butteris report details Honolulu sewer work at Kakanko Road near the military range. About fifty workers, including twenty six skilled whites and Portuguese and Japanese laborers, dig a large pit and ditches for drainage while an engine pumps water to the bay. The reservoir will be twelve feet deep and 103 feet square with masonry and concrete pillars. The Mary E Foster is due with more pipe and workers, delaying town work until the pipes arrive. The outfall runs about a mile to the sea.
The Home Cafe introduces two promotions for the public. Regular boarders pay six dollars weekly and receive a 60 cent dinner as part of the deal.
