French Gunboat Forced to Halt After Harbor Entrance

A 2000-ton French gunboat attempting to enter Playa Del Este harbor at dusk entered the entrance despite blockading vessels. Marblehead fired a blank and then a six pounder round across the bows, prompting the ship to stop after a second warning. Commodore McCalla reminded the vessel of naval custom, and it anchored in the lower harbor for the night.
