Ventura Sails for San Francisco Amid Harbor Crowds

The Oroante steamship Ventura, Captain Hayward, left Honolulu harbor for San Francisco after 24 hours in port. She discharged five tons of Australian freight and loaded 9000 barrels of sugar, while passengers bid farewell in a scene of flowers and cheers. Some Honolulu travelers shifted plans to ride the Ventura after popular boats proved full. The voyage is expected to begin early Monday, with calm seas anticipated, though a controversy over a mirror sign aboard the ship sparked a sharp exchange between Captain Hayward, Bucknam, and others.
