Captain Hamilton of the Roanoke left Japan four days after the Aryan, which made the record run to the islands in 1T days. Eleven days out the Roanoke was 800 miles north of the islands, having hit the same wind streak the Aryan faced. If wind held, port arrival could have been in three or four days, beating the Aryan. Wind shifted, taking 23 days to reach Honolulu, a voyage begun in 60 suspiciously.
