Fourth of July in Honolulu Full Day of Quiet Festivities
Honolulu residents observed Independence Day with a relaxed program of baseball in the morning horse and bicycle events at Cyclomere in the afternoon and an evening dance at the Healani Boat House. The day featured regimental baseball at Mukiki grounds, Ka piolani Park horse races, and a moonlit reception by United States Minister Harold M. Newall at the Legation in Waikiki.

The City of Para reached the Pacific Mail wharf after a June 27 departure from San Francisco. The 13th Minnesota Vols under Col. Charles McRee disembarked, with officers listed and bands aboard. Newport and Valencia expected, then Manila voyage to follow with Indiana leading the fleet.

Captured 738 Tins Opium At Coon Home Raid
Custom House officers raided W J Coon of Union Express Company home on opium possession charges. Draymen and inspectors traced crates to the Port Surveyor and Chief Marshal. 448 tins of opium and several kerosene cases were found in a hidden cage under the house. Coon was arrested and held on bail of 1000. investigation continued.
