Washington July 29. The nomination of W J Robinson to be Third Judge of the First Circuit Court of the Territory of Hawaii was announced. If confirmed, he would join the territory’s judicial panel pending Senate action and appointment procedures.
Dr Judd describes Governor Carter as failing, with high fever and signs of collapse after several days of illness. The physician notes the governor is not awake to public matters and that only Carter, 180 nurses, and the doctor have been admitted to his room. Rumors persist as reports continue on page 4.
Captain Parker arrested Chum Hoon a Chinaman at the Chinse restaurant on Alala street near King for possessing 71 cheating tickets tied to a $840.29 investment. Bond set at $100. He is believed to be one of several chete agents operating in Honolulu, with drafts leading to a large upcoming drawing.
Twenty thousand redwood railroad ties for the Wahiawa extension are drying and being treated at the railroad wharves. Crews apply chemical preparations to prevent decay and rot, preparing the ties for laying track as work on the new Oahu company branch advances.
