Hagey Club Concert Draws Full House at YMCA Hall

The Hagey Club opened with a packed YMCA hall as G R Harrison and J K Muller presided. Prof J W Yarnodley, W A Love, and Mrs Montague Turner led the program with vocal and violin pieces, while Donald de V Grahams and Mr James T Stewart also performed. The event promoted Hagey Institute for liquor and tobacco treatment with plans for a permanent city facility.

Investigations Link Opium Shipment to Arrests at Station

Detectives arrest J W Blake of Talliland about 9 am and hold John Gilbertson for investigation in connection with opium importation in Omar boxes. Blake’s trunk, examined at the station, revealed contents. Gilbertson found with a satchel of opium. Charges not filed yet. Failing to explain, both men from Victoria. Detective Kapa may have more details.

Dr Sloggett Honored Medal For Challenger Expedition Service

Honolulu notes Dr H Sloggett hailed as a distinguished officer from the HMS Challenger voyage of 1872 6. He received a bronze medal with Britannia Neptune and the knight in armor, inscribed for the Challenger voyage and the report on its scientific results. The medal was presented by the British Vice Consul and honors his magmatic observations work and later medical studies in Edinburgh.
