TOKYO Japan Jan 19 Russia's reply to Japan's latest note is expected to contain concessions. While statesmen foresee peace the concessions may not suffice and further negotiations are anticipated.
A troubled attempt at escape by Maggie Pines and two companions from Kapalama Girls' Industrial School is reported. A broken back gate, disguises, and a quick police response led to the trio’s recapture near the railway track, with authorities investigating possible outside assistance.
Governor Carter Territorial Secretary Atkinson and Creedon depart on the steamer Kinau at noon for Hawaii. The trip aims to assess irrigation, water, land, roads, and agricultural needs with farmers, landowners, and promoters.
