The House Committee on Military Affairs completed the Army appropriation bill setting it at 879,034,372 based on an army around 100,000 men. The measure scales back contingencies, trims headquarters clerical staff and adjusts provisions for Major General, Brazil, and aviation costs amid the push to expand the Army to the authorized strength.
There was much comment that evening on the appearance of the regimental squad. Captain Bergetrom and First Lieutenant Timmons were unwell, Second Lieutenant Needham was named Adjutant of the First Battalion, leaving Company D without an officer. Privates were dismissed and medals awarded for the evening. Lieut Timmons won the first prize medal, Henry Cook the second prize silver medal, and W. Lyle received the bronze medal.
In police court this forenoon Mula Adam received six months in the reform school for trainer charge. The case of Kawai for assault and battery on T E Newcomb was nolle prosequi.
Aala Park project proceeds under supervision by FP, W. Damon, and nasoviater, named by the Government as voluntary committee to oversee operations. Rumor says Aly Gear of Gear Lansing & Co has traveled to Lanni Island with investors from San Francisco and the East to push a strong hut venture. Minister Cooper requests bids for a Beretania Street schoolhouse project under the new Today framework.
Jonathan Shaw led the lone water works voter tally as Dole voted first at Haysaschool. Inspectors on the veranda listened to scholars as Kapaniwa building voters and Government nursery voters produced listed names. Beretania schoolhouse had the reporter as a voter No 15 amid a busy scene. Sumwary votes cast total 33 with 1 needed if properly marked.
Heid on the Plains Deputy Marshal Chillingworth and Favens raided a gambling den at Pensacola and Beretania between noon and 1 pm after police complaints. With only two officers, suspects fled through windows and doors, but a large gang was corraled and evidence including money and paraphernalia was seized.
On Mawati Roads the eight mile North Kona Kohala road contract has been awarded to J A McGuire and work has begun. The opposite side, from Papa South Kona to Kau, was let to Mr Vasconcellos.
There are at the police station nine deserters from Willecott and W F Babcock, who have refused duty aboard their ships. The disposition of the men has not yet been arranged.
Cheehoit notes the Post Office started selling stamps again after a run on two cent stamps. He recalls that one cent stamps had a temporary shortage and limited quantities arrived with new stock dated upon arrival, with only small lots sold.
Captain Gregory of the Iwalani writes that trouble with his veilers at Knuni was not great. Several men were drunk and grabbed him by the collar, while another struck him in the jaw. He had the men arrested for drunkenness, not assault and battery.
Lucas Bros lay new flows at the Queen's Hospital with a tilted skylight in the pouring room. Planned work includes reconstructing stairways with a middle landing. The current single flights are too high and steep for easy use.

First Sergeant W. Weedon of Company B becomes the first Hawaii National Guard member to earn the third stripes after six full years of service. The insignia mark a handsome uniform and extended commitment to the force.
