In Honolulu bankers urge strict economy to relieve business strain. Overinvestment and speculation blamed for dull times while sugar crop prospects and cash flow hint at relief within weeks. They warn against further speculation and urge prudent spending to revive activity.
A native couple arrived at a police station late at night. The woman claimed her husband should be arrested after a drunken disturbance. Inside the station, authorities found a purse containing 50 cents and three dog’s teeth, said to guard against bites. A treasure tale involving gold and a hidden chest allegedly tied to an old native chief was recounted by a local storyteller.
Mundrody era of people flocked to Kalihi Park for a Washington picnic noted for a grand carnival at the old brewery grounds. The Bulletin reports no sign of the Alameda or the Doric after they left San Francisco within an hour of each other on February 15. Both steamers are overdue by more than twenty four hours, with weather and possible delays at port cited as reasons. Authorities warn to await official notices before assuming arrival times.
