Hawaii Senate Debates Bills as Finance Committee Takes Lead

The Hawaii Senate met with President Wilder presiding. Hilo Electric Railway bill outlines strict local franchise

The proposed Hilo street railway would be locally controlled with no transfer to non residents or foreign firms. Fare capped at ten cents with freight rates set by the Interior Minister. Construction of at least two miles within two years required. government may seize completed sections within five years. Safety provisions include grooved rails, well maintained cars, and life saving screens. Vehicles to be supervised by the Interior Minister with penalties for noncompliance. Franchise limited to thirty years with tax exemption for two years.

Pearl Harbor Trip By Union Express Crew

Over Pearl Lech. W. Larson, W. J. Coon, D. A. Campbell, Joe McGuire and others took a trip to Pearl Harbor in the Union Express Company's steam launch yesterday. The weather was fair and the sea smooth as a mill pond. Lonch was bad on the Peninsula. The party returned to town about 6 p.m.
